Remember when I mentioned that Doug and I had some huge news to share? We’ll we finally got the green light to let the cat out of the bag… we’re moving to California! Doug was given this great job opportunity, so we put our house up for sale and we’ll be heading west to Los Angeles right after the new year.
I have mixed feelings about leaving Newburyport. I really love it here! And I am so sad about selling my house. But as the move gets closer and closer, I’m trying to really think of this as an adventure. We have a long list of west coast places we want to visit, and I know a few winters without snow will be more than welcome.
We don’t know how long we’ll be in California or whether we will even like it or not, but come January we’ll be embarking on our west coast adventure, and I hope you’ll follow along. I’m sure someday we’ll be back, but for now I’m just soaking up ever last chilly minute here in Newburyport before we leave.
PS. Coat is by Vince from last winter, but a similar one is available here.
Doug and I recently scouted out a new location in Newburyport for photos — I just loved the rugged backdrop against the fancier heels and skirt. It was also kind of hidden behind a parking lot, so I was able to dodge any funny looks from the visiting tourists!
When I first saw this midi skirt I wasn’t sure I was going to like it. It seemed pretty long! But once I tried it on I absolutely loved it. With a jacket and pumps I could dress it up for work, or I could leave it dressed down like I’m wearing here. I also followed this new “French rule” for wearing skirts and heels — flats for skirts above the knee, and heels for skirts below the knee. These Peter Pilotto for Target heels were a total impulse buy a few years back (similar styles here, here and here) and although I don’t wear them often, sometimes with the right outfit they are totally on point.
Tonight I start my first day of sailing lessons! I am not quite sure what made me sign up, but I did! So for the next eight weeks I will be taking lessons with a local yacht club and marina here in Newburyport.
Maybe I will love it, maybe I will hate it — but come 8:00pm tonight I will certainly have an idea! Do any of you know how to sail? Let me know!!
One of the things I really missed this winter was the walk into town to work in a coffee shop for a few hours. Working from home can get a little tiresome day after day, so its nice to have a place to go when I need a little change of scenery.
Its still a bit chilly, but I am so over wearing a jacket, so I layered up with a chunky sweater and scarf. One of my favorites parts about walking into town is all the steps that I get on my FitBit! At home and working out I wear the standard silicone band, but when I go out I’ve upgraded to Tory Burch’s new leather wrap bracelet. I am obsessed with my FitBit, but I just didn’t like how it looked with some of my outfits — now you can’t even tell that I’m wearing a fitness tracker!
I can’t believe tomorrow it will May! This past weekend we took our first walk along the beach on Plum Island. It seems so surreal that spring is finally here. Sure the sand was a little chilly, but it felt fantastic to be outside without snowboots and a puffer coat. And aren’t the clouds amazing! I’d like to think the horrible winter was worth it, but I won’t lie there were moments I didn’t think this day would come! For months we battled mounds and mounds of snow. Our snowblower died mid-winter and mid-storm. There were weeks where I barely left my house and my main motivation for shoveling my front steps were out of concern for my postman more than anything else.
But spring is here! We saw about 10 other couples walking along on the chilly sand and met about 15 furry friends who were so excited to frolic in what I can only imagine were ice cold New England waters!
I have a busy spring ahead of me, so I don’t want to rush it too fast to summer! What are you looking forward to most this spring? Let me know in the comments below! xx
