Life Lately

Things have been a little rough lately, especially for the blog! If you follow me on Instagram, you saw that Doug and I were in California last week to visit some friends and attend a wedding. I brought lots of cool new pieces to wear, including this dress and this skirt from Ann Taylor, but Doug’s camera broke on Day 1 and I came home with only a few photos.

Then we headed off to the Cape for the 4th of July, but I got really sick and ended up in the hospital. Again, I packed a ton of fun outfits, including a fun patriotic scarf from AliKat, new Soludos ankle tie espadrilles, a silver maxi from Target, and a Nic + Zoe tunic. But I spent all weekend sick in my pajamas and of course, didn’t take any pictures.

Hopefully this month will start to turn around. Doug’s getting his camera fixed, and I’m feeling a lot better.  Here are a few iPhone snaps from our trips, just to prove that there were a few good times in the midst of everything!

Sporty Chic

Dress: Ann Taylor c/o / Sunglasses: Ray-Ban / Necklace: Max&Chloe / Shoes: Jack Rogers

When I first saw this white dress from Ann Taylor it reminded me of an all-white tennis outfit. The sporty chic look deserved nothing less than my preppiest accessories and a seaside background that included Newburyport’s finest boats and yachts.

I was hoping to sign up for some sailing lessons this summer but the class filled up before I was able to snag a seat. I’m on the waiting list, just in case anyone cancels or they decide to open another class. Hopefully they will find a spot for me so I can cruise around the harbor this summer!

Vacay Every Day

Ever have one of those weeks (or days!) where you just feel like you need a vacation? Where you just wish you could just close your eyes and magically transport yourself to a beach in the Caribbean, complete with a tropical drink in your hand? Yeah, me too. I haven’t figured out the whole “close your eyes and wake up at the beach” part, but I can certainly help with the tropical drink.

Palm_Breeze 2

Palm Breeze is a sparkling alcohol spritz drink that comes in two tropical flavors, Ruby Red Citrus and Pineapple Mandarin Orange. I found both flavors at my local liquor store (already chilled in the fridge!) and brought them home to test out. The Pineapple Mandarin Orange is my favorite and I’ve created my own signature cocktail for when I have my girlfriends over for a beach day this summer.

Christine’s Caribbean Cocktail

1 can Palm Breeze (Pineapple Mandarin Orange)
1 shot mandarin orange vodka
Splash of club soda
Cherry or Strawberry for garnish

Of course, no tropical drink is complete with a mini umbrella! I picked up a whole pack at a local party store so I could have them on hand for any impromptu parties that I might have this summer! After this long winter I know we’re all itching to spend our weekends outside, hanging out, drinking Palm Breeze and soaking up the sun! I also love that it comes in a can — super convenient for any BYOB party or picnic. And I don’t need to worry about bringing bottle openers and corkscrews, or the potential of having broken glass!

So go on and get yourself your own pack of Palm Breeze (you can look up stores where its sold nationwide here) and celebrate a “vacay every day” with your girlfriends!  And don’t forget to send me pics on Twitter or Instagram of your parties with the hashtag #VacayEveryDay!

Modern Girl on the Go with Lenovo

Lenovo_Yoga 3

I am a Modern Girl on the go — juggling a full time job, a coaching certificate program, my blog, as well as my home and social life. I am always looking for new tips, tricks and tools to help me get everything I need done. I know that I need the best in order to perform at my best! So I was super intrigued when Lenovo sent me their YOGA Tablet 2 Pro — designed by none other than Ashton Kutcher! (Who knew he was their product engineer?!) I took it for a spin to see if it could keep up to my busy life.

Last month I was having a little cabin fever from all of our snow, so I packed up the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro and headed to a nearby coffee shop to test it out! I loved how lightweight the tablet was, despite having a full 13.3 inch screen. It make my trek into town a little easier than  if I had packed a full-sized laptop.

The first thing I noticed was how bright and sharp the screen was. I couldn’t wait to read through my favorite blogs, scroll through Instagram, and watch movies on Netflix. I love its built in stand design and how sleek it looks. But I was super surprised to find that it also has a Pico projector built into the side, which would be awesome for presentations, meetings, and on-the-go movie nights!

Blogging with the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro has been really easy — with the Play Store at my disposal I’ve been able to download Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, WordPress, as well as any other app imiaginable that I may need.  With all the apps on my tablet I can keep up with Rules for the Modern Girl while I’m on the go, or even just at home on the couch!

I wasn’t able to attend New York Fashion Week this year in person, but I was able to live stream some of my favorite shows on the MBFW website using the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro. With 15 hours of battery life I could have watched them all day!

The YOGA Tablet 2 Pro definitely fits my needs as a Modern Girl on the go, but I’ll admit that sometimes I just want to lounge around on my indoor hammock flipping through Instagram. Thanks to my husband, Doug for catching this fun candid!

On our last day in Aruba I swapped my bathing suit for some fun pink shorts for a walk on the beach and breakfast at a local restaurant, Hadicurari. I definitely did not want to leave as I knew there was 3 ft of snow waiting for me at home! However, I was grateful to spend a few more hours in the sun & sand before jetting off to Boston.
