Blush & Rose

My favorite color has always been pink, but theres something about springtime that really makes me drawn to the pastel blush and rose colors. Even when I’m grocery shopping, I can’t help but pick up a pretty pink bouquet of ranunculus or tulips, and maybe a bottle of rosé wine! And just this weekend I just swapped out my red nail polish for a pretty pastel pink hue. Here are some of my other pink favorites:

Candle | Bag | Bangle | Essie Polish | OPI Polish
Rings | Lip Scrub | Bath Oil | Conditioner | Sunglasses | Clutch

Weekend Plans

My weekends since moving to California have become so much more active. We’re either going to brunch with friends, biking along the coast, or shopping at the local farmer’s market. My style has also adapted to the low-key and laid-back lifestyle here — everyone is in t-shirts and jeans!  Here’s a look at this past weekend…

Saturday we hit up the Farmer’s Market — I love buying fresh flowers (the selection is amazing) and fruits/vegetables for the week. Every weekend I try to pick a new market to visit and so far we’ve been to the markets in Mar Vista, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, and Playa Vista.

For an easy look for heading to the market, I wore my Banana Republic Boyfriend Chino Crops with an old jean jacket and some leather sandals. Its gorgeous and sunny here almost every single day, but still sometimes in the low 60s in the morning, so the cropped length was perfect.

Sundays in California were totally meant for brunch with huevos rancheros (or breakfast burritos!), mimosas, and great friends. After brunch we took a walk down the pier at Hermosa Beach to watch the surfers and then biked to Venice Beach for a post-brunch nap.

I wore my Banana Republic Button-Front Denim Skirt with a casual linen shirt and my go-to leather sandals. It was a bit breezy, but it was a beautiful day to walk along the water.

Fair Isle Cozy

Necklace: Kendra Scott via Rocksbox | Scarf: Soak Shoreline

It may not look like winter up here in New England, but today it certainly felt like it! There’s nothing I love more than a super cozy sweater on a cold day. I wrapped up in this cozy Fair Isle sweater from Old Navy for a quick walk on the beach at Plum Island before we headed home to host a little holiday party for some friends and family. I loved that the sweater feels like a really chic blanket. The sides are perfectly drapey, but the sleeves are still fitted so I don’t feel overwhelmed. I have a feeling this sweater is going to be on repeat until the spring!

Pop of Pink

You know how I know its super hot out? I actually will put on a pair of shorts! I’m not a huge fan of shorts — I just don’t think they are really flattering on me, but I do like this pair from J.Crew. The pop of pink really livens up an otherwise simple outfit and with my flowy black tank I wasn’t dying of heat too much as we walked into town for some Tuesday Tacos at Dos Amigos.

Doug asn’t a huge fan of my sunglasses (and he also cut out of ALL the pictures my cute Jack Rogers jelly sandals!) but when I saw them at Nordstrom and just had to have them! They were quite a steal at under $40 and added a bit of fun to my un-accessorized outfit.  And to really make a statement… they also come in leopard!

Stay cool!

The White Midi Skirt

Doug and I recently scouted out a new location in Newburyport for photos — I just loved the rugged backdrop against the fancier heels and skirt. It was also kind of hidden behind a parking lot, so I was able to dodge any funny looks from the visiting tourists!

When I first saw this midi skirt I wasn’t sure I was going to like it. It seemed pretty long!  But once I tried it on I absolutely loved it.  With a jacket and pumps I could dress it up for work, or I could leave it dressed down like I’m wearing here. I also followed this new “French rule” for wearing skirts and heels — flats for skirts above the knee, and heels for skirts below the knee. These Peter Pilotto for Target heels were a total impulse buy a few years back (similar styles here, here and here) and although I don’t wear them often, sometimes with the right outfit they are totally on point.
