The past few years I’ve really been focused on purchasing items that are less trendy or “fast fashion” and more timeless and classic. I spotted this Who What Wear x Target dress the other day and was so distracted with trying to frantically find it in my size that I completely forgot about the vitamins that I actually went in there for! (I like Olly if you’re wondering!)
I love the shirtdress style with the optional belted waist — totally classic, but able to be dressed up or down with the addition of jewelry, heels, sandals, or even jeans! Its also super lightweight and will be perfect for dinner or drinks on hot summer nights. I will note that its not as opaque as I’d like it to be, so I wore a slip underneath!
Check back next week for Part 2 where I’ll style the dress in a totally different way. This dress will definitely be in heavy rotation in my wardrobe this summer!
These days I’m all about the relaxed California vibe — and when I spotted these pink wide-leg pants I knew they would be perfect for the summer. Although it gets super hot inland, it stays cooler near the water and in the marina where we live. The wide-leg is breezy enough for the daytime, but keeps me warm once the sun goes down. I also always throw my jean jacket into the car, just in case!
Doug and I are also obsessed with anything from Alternative Apparel — like this tank. They have the softest t-shirts and we’ve been back to their Venice location twice to stock up. Along with the tank tops, I have their organic french terry crewneck and zip up hoodie. The hoodie is currently on sale now too!
One of my absolute favorite things about Marina del Rey is the bike path thats right behind our apartment. It’s a 22 mile bike path all along the Los Angeles coastline, running all the way from Pacific Palisades down to Torrance, just past Redondo Beach. We take a bike ride almost every single weekend usually to Santa Monica Pier (north) or Manhattan Beach (south) and we always make a pit stop for some lunch and wine. Totally one of my favorite things to do on the weekend and either north or south, its such a gorgeous ride along the beach! On this particular day we didn’t ride on the bike path, but rather walked up it a little bit and headed into the marina for dinner.
I’ve also been having a lot of fun lately with hats since my colorist told me that the sun will make my newly blonde locks turn brassy. This hat is from Cuyana, one of my absolute favorite brands — I love their “fewer, better” motto and minimalist mentality. I own a few of their products and I’m super lucky that one of their 2 stores (nationwide!) is 5 minutes away from me in Venice!
I absolutely love Turkish towels (aka Pestemals) and have several that I use as scarves/wraps and beach blankets. But when I spotted this Turkish towel poncho at a local artisan’s market in Venice, it was so unique I just had to have it! The Handloom is a local company that “blends traditional Turkish culture and the Southern California sun.”
I wore it on an afternoon outing to Malibu Wines and it was the perfect layer — not too warm for the daytime, but for when the sun started to go down. It comes in other colors, but I loved the creamy light color. And I can see it looking great with a long sleeve white tee later in the fall!
I’m not much for festivals or camping, but I couldn’t pass up this super cute H&M x Coachella skirt! A long time ago, my grandmother told me that an elephant with its trunk up is good luck, so I’ve always been drawn to anything that has pictures of them on it. I’ve also been wearing my jean jacket non-stop! Its a perfect layer for a chilly California evening. I’m starting to think I need a white one, so that I can wear one with jeans without giving off the “Canadian Tuxedo” vibe.
