One of my absolute favorite things about Marina del Rey is the bike path thats right behind our apartment. It’s a 22 mile bike path all along the Los Angeles coastline, running all the way from Pacific Palisades down to Torrance, just past Redondo Beach. We take a bike ride almost every single weekend usually to Santa Monica Pier (north) or Manhattan Beach (south) and we always make a pit stop for some lunch and wine. Totally one of my favorite things to do on the weekend and either north or south, its such a gorgeous ride along the beach! On this particular day we didn’t ride on the bike path, but rather walked up it a little bit and headed into the marina for dinner.
I’ve also been having a lot of fun lately with hats since my colorist told me that the sun will make my newly blonde locks turn brassy. This hat is from Cuyana, one of my absolute favorite brands — I love their “fewer, better” motto and minimalist mentality. I own a few of their products and I’m super lucky that one of their 2 stores (nationwide!) is 5 minutes away from me in Venice!
Doug and I recently scouted out a new location in Newburyport for photos — I just loved the rugged backdrop against the fancier heels and skirt. It was also kind of hidden behind a parking lot, so I was able to dodge any funny looks from the visiting tourists!
When I first saw this midi skirt I wasn’t sure I was going to like it. It seemed pretty long! But once I tried it on I absolutely loved it. With a jacket and pumps I could dress it up for work, or I could leave it dressed down like I’m wearing here. I also followed this new “French rule” for wearing skirts and heels — flats for skirts above the knee, and heels for skirts below the knee. These Peter Pilotto for Target heels were a total impulse buy a few years back (similar styles here, here and here) and although I don’t wear them often, sometimes with the right outfit they are totally on point.
Although it was pretty chilly on the Cape this Memorial Day weekend, I still wanted to wear a bright and summery all-white outfit. I love these Joe’s Jeans — they are stain proof! Since it was still cool, I wore a 3/4 sleeve mixed media sweater with a lace bottom. It was a fall purchase, but I’ve linked to several similar summer-weather pieces below! And I picked up this cute canvas clutch earlier in the day at one of the local shops in town, The Mayflower. Its changed quite a bit since I shopped there as a kid, but they have a ton of great home decor items, clothing, jewelry, and gifts.
Don’t forget to use my code rulesforthemoderngirlxoxo for a free month of Rocksbox! They send awesome pieces from so many different brands, and you can select individual items for your wishlist, so they know what styles you like! I love my Margaret Elizabeth ring and wear it almost every day!
I think I read about Tom Cruise selling his Telluride house just a day or so before I spotted this sweater at my local Bobbles & Lace. I clearly had all things “Western” on the brain — dreaming about drinking coffee from my luxe log cabin in the mountains. I suppose if I can’t have my own Telluride mansion, I can at least dress the part!
The sweater is so soft and comfy — here I’ve belted it, but I can also wear it open. My Frye boots were a birthday present from my parents last year and probably my favorite pair of shoes to date. They are so amazing and versatile that I also splurged on this black pull-on Frye Melissa Button pair earlier in the fall. They fit perfectly and will last for years and years to come. If you ever catch them on a sale definitely snag them!!
My sweater is no longer available online (it may be in some of their stores!), but I’ve rounded up some other chic & western options!
A few weeks ago my in-laws took me out to dinner for my birthday one Friday after work. I turned to some chic staples of black jeans and a white silk shirt. We were driving to dinner which automatically make one thing possible — heels! I typically don’t wear them when we go out to dinner because we will walk into town, but since we were driving I ran upstairs to pick out a fun pair. Can’t go wrong with spiked nude pumps.
