Remember when I mentioned that Doug and I had some huge news to share? We’ll we finally got the green light to let the cat out of the bag… we’re moving to California! Doug was given this great job opportunity, so we put our house up for sale and we’ll be heading west to Los Angeles right after the new year.
I have mixed feelings about leaving Newburyport. I really love it here! And I am so sad about selling my house. But as the move gets closer and closer, I’m trying to really think of this as an adventure. We have a long list of west coast places we want to visit, and I know a few winters without snow will be more than welcome.
We don’t know how long we’ll be in California or whether we will even like it or not, but come January we’ll be embarking on our west coast adventure, and I hope you’ll follow along. I’m sure someday we’ll be back, but for now I’m just soaking up ever last chilly minute here in Newburyport before we leave.
PS. Coat is by Vince from last winter, but a similar one is available here.
You know how I know its super hot out? I actually will put on a pair of shorts! I’m not a huge fan of shorts — I just don’t think they are really flattering on me, but I do like this pair from J.Crew. The pop of pink really livens up an otherwise simple outfit and with my flowy black tank I wasn’t dying of heat too much as we walked into town for some Tuesday Tacos at Dos Amigos.
Doug asn’t a huge fan of my sunglasses (and he also cut out of ALL the pictures my cute Jack Rogers jelly sandals!) but when I saw them at Nordstrom and just had to have them! They were quite a steal at under $40 and added a bit of fun to my un-accessorized outfit. And to really make a statement… they also come in leopard!
Hi! So its been awhile — I took a bit of an unexpected break this past month from blogging. A mix of illness, work travel, and general summer kept me busy, but I’m feeling better and I can’t wait to get back into my blogging groove!
I know that lots of stores are buzzing about their fall collections, but we still have over a month, maybe two months, of summer left! This blue and white striped maxi is such a stunner — it can totally be dressed down for a casual alfresco dinner, or dressed up for a wedding. Who doesn’t love summer stripes!?
Here I’m on the beach on Plum Island, which is one of my favorite beach spots and I’m so lucky to live just 4.5 miles away! Its been so busy that I haven’t biked here yet this summer, but I’m hoping to make a few trips out in September. I just love sitting on the beach in the early fall with a blanket and a good book!
The best part about this dress? It’s currently over 50% off! No coupon codes necessary, just head on over to Ann Taylor.com and scoop up some of their awesome sale items.
Maxi dresses are my favorite dresses for summer — super easy and very forgiving — so I’ve been stocking up with some of the end of summer sales. Here are some of the other dresses in my shopping cart:
Doug and I usually plant a huge herb garden in the late spring/early summer that will last us all the way to September. With our busy schedules these past 6 weeks I kept putting it off — thinking that I shouldn’t buy any plants since I wouldn’t be home to water them! This weekend we finally headed over to Home Depots’ nursery and picked up what little was left… parsley, basil, rosemary, hot peppers and tomato plants.
At the Vintage Bazaar a few weeks ago we purchased some covered grape boxes and we used them to plant our herbs. We have a nosy family of groundhogs living under our deck, so I put our grape box of herbs on top of our table, in hopes that it will keep the groundhogs away!
There’s still time to plant some herbs outside so that the rest of your summer is full of fresh basil pesto and juicy, ripe tomatoes. If you don’t have a grape box, there are some fun planters at Target:
Tonight I start my first day of sailing lessons! I am not quite sure what made me sign up, but I did! So for the next eight weeks I will be taking lessons with a local yacht club and marina here in Newburyport.
Maybe I will love it, maybe I will hate it — but come 8:00pm tonight I will certainly have an idea! Do any of you know how to sail? Let me know!!
