Happiest Holiday

Happy, happy holidays to you and yours! I love the holiday card that I created with Shutterfly this year. They always have the best selection of cards and they also have great deals in early December for discounts on your order. I think I got mine for 50% off! Even though I celebrate Christmas, I typically choose a secular holiday card to be inclusive of all my friends and family’s celebrations. Shutterfly really has a great selection of generic holiday cards in addition to cards for Christmas, New Years, Hanukkah, and more. I chose this one since the green header matched the background of our photo perfectly.

I’ll be signing off for a few days to spend Christmas with my family before I head out to California, but of course you can follow along on Instagram. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!

Not a sponsored post. I use Shutterfly every year for my holiday cards and pay for them with my own hard earned moolah. I just think they are great!

Modern Girl Gift Guide: For the person who has everything…

Do you have that one person in your life who just really has everything they need? Or who typically buys everything they want themselves? Sometimes I sit and wonder… if price was no issue, what could you buy that person who just seems to have everything?

Of course if money was no object I’d get them the very best in skincare. This La Mer cream claims to be a miracle and I’d assume using it would be like slathering your face with liquid gold. Not that it would matter, but ounce for ounce, I think they are the same price…

Forget countries and bodies of water, this stunning globe from Barney’s shows you the stars! However, we might have to return it since I don’t think it lights up.  How am I going to see the map when I bring it outside to look for the Little Dipper?

The better the perfume bottle looks, the better the perfume smells. N’est-ce pas? This Limited Edition Bond No.9 comes encrusted with Swarovski ruby fanci-stones (what the heck is a fanci-stone?) that claim to be as mesmerizing as the scent. See I told you!

Come on. Who wouldn’t want their own diamond encrusted tiara? Throw on a red dress and you’ll be mistaken for the Duchess of Cambridge as you make your way to dinner. At just under six figures its a small price to pay to be a princess. Happy biding at Christie’s!

For the tush that has everything, a super unique hanging egg chair. Perhaps the recipient will hang the chairs from a coconut tree on their own private island. I mean, a chair this fabulous can’t go just anywhere.

Perhaps for the teacher who has everything, a glass apple votive holder. For best results, bring it to school without a votive or matches. Those are frowned upon in the classroom these days.

Salt, pepper, and mustard should always be dispensed out of a sterling silver frog family. Check out that gilded tongue! If frogs aren’t your thing, theres an owl family too, complete with a gilded beak.

I don’t know about you, but my ears would definitely hear music better on a pair of fox-fur, Swarovski-embellished, gold nappa leather headphones. Although you think for the price D&G would have sprung for real pearls. Next year…

Worried about what clutch to use for all you holiday parties? Now you can carry your Amex Black Card and Maserati keys in style with your very own black swan purse. Covered in Swarovski crystals, it also comes in a white swan style. Remember girls, as Carrie Bradshaw learned the hard way, this purse is not an engagement ring.

Leave it to Versace to create a gold-finished, luxury toilet brush holder. Said to “snuggly” fit  in the corner of any bathroom, this is a gift for anyone. Toilet brush sold separately.

No entry way is complete without a stunning chandelier.  Ralph Lauren outdid himself with this 60.5 inch crystal stunner. Order fast! Its a special order and takes at least 4 weeks to ship. Tick tock!

If Cinderella was going to the ball today, no doubt the fairy godmother would outfit her with these sparkly heels. And you better believe she’s gonna glue them to her feet.

Ok, ok! My fun is over! But couldn’t resist as I do believe that sometimes we all get a little crazy over gifts during the holidays. Most of my favorite gifts are the ones that are the least expensive or flashy. A handmade item means more than a store bought one, and memories from a trip or experience will last longer than a sparkly piece of jewelry. And to be honest, all I want this year for Christmas is time with my family. But can you imagine if I really wanted a pair of embellished fox fur headphones?

But what might really be the best gift for someone who has everything? A donation in their name so that someone else may get what they really need this holiday season. Here are some of my favorite charities:

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
Doctors Without Borders
Habitat for Humanity
Planned Parenthood Action Fund
Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation
World Wildlife Fund

Modern Girl Gift Guide: For the Host & Hostess

I never like to head to a holiday party (or any party for that matter) without a little something for the host and/or hostess. Just a little token of gratitude for thinking of me and inviting me to their place! But the gift will vary depending on the type of event and the person throwing the party.

If its a super casual party with lots of children and families, I might opt to bring a cake or some homemade cookies in a nice jar or tin. Better yet, if the host doesn’t mind a little mess I may bring some gingerbread cookies for the little ones to decorate!  Stonewall Kitchen makes my favorite cake and cookie mixes, and they’re a local New England company!

For a fancier, adults-only party bring along some cheeky cocktail napkins — my favorites are from Domino and blogger Mackenzie Horan’s online boutique, Design Darling. Of course, to go along with your cocktail napkins don’t forget to bring along a bottle of wine or some celebratory bubbly!

I’ve mentioned the S’well Bottle before, but its just because I love it so much. Keeps drinks cold for 24 hours (really!) and hot for 12 hours. I never leave the house without mine. It comes in three sizes and the largest can hold an entire bottle of wine. Picnic anyone?

At a cozier party setting, a nice tin of loose-leaf tea will be appreciated by its recipient. Or surprise them with a fancy Diptyque candle. Choose from a set of minis, or a larger festive scent. Don’t like candles? A fresh floral arrangement delivered a day before or after will leave a lasting impression. Be sure to pick a local flower shop to ensure quality and fast delivery.

And finally, don’t forget the thank you card!!

Modern Girl Gift Guide: Under $30

When it comes to gift guides, I don’t really need too much help with things for my mom, dad, brother or husband, because I try to think of personal things that they want or need. However, where I do struggle is those odd gifts — like what to buy for a yankee swap! Here are a few of my favorite items under $30, perfect for any yankee swap whether its with your girlfriends or co-workers.

If its a girl-only yankee swap with your best gals, a fun pair of glittery studs (only $8!) or an Alex and Ani bracelet would be coveted by all. Not into jewelry? Try a hot-or-cold travel mug in a tropical print, a set of seasonal bath gels, a luxe candle, or a cute travel pouch.

If you’ve got a co-ed crew jazz up the swap with a pair of festive holiday socks (make it a “cozy night in” themed gift with a tin of hot cocoa), a S’well bottle (its amazing!), or a copper corkscrew (pair it with a bottle of red!).  Anyone can use an extra pair of earbuds, especially ones with a built in mic! Or indulge in this year’s newest trend — adult coloring books, complete with a fresh set of colored pencils.

Don’t be surprised if your gift is the one everyone keeps trying to swap for during the exchange!  Stay tuned for the next gift guide… gifts for the holiday party host & hostess!

White & Lace

Memorial_Day 7
Shirt: Anthro, old (similar) / Jeans: Joe’s / Sunglasses: Ray-Ban / Shoes: Jack Rogers
Rings: Margaret Elizabeth via Rocksbox & Ariella Collection / Clutch: Mayflower in Chatham

Although it was pretty chilly on the Cape this Memorial Day weekend, I still wanted to wear a bright and summery all-white outfit. I love these Joe’s Jeans — they are stain proof! Since it was still cool, I wore a 3/4 sleeve mixed media sweater with a lace bottom. It was a fall purchase, but I’ve linked to several similar summer-weather pieces below! And I picked up this cute canvas clutch earlier in the day at one of the local shops in town, The Mayflower. Its changed quite a bit since I shopped there as a kid, but they have a ton of great home decor items, clothing, jewelry, and gifts.
