beauty obsession: invisibobble


I’m super particular about the products and accessories that I put in my hair now that I’ve gone blonde. I need to be very careful not to cause any additional breakage or damage. One thing that I definitely do on a daily basis is put my hair up into a pony tail — spin class, BodyPump, yoga — I am just not one of those girls who can workout with her hair down!

Traditional hair ties leave marks and dents in your hair and can cause extra pressure and breakage on your strands — but not the invisibobble! I’ll be honest, I spotted this cute little product at the checkout counter at Sephora while I was waiting in line.  I was struck more at first by its tiny little packaging and threw it in my basket on a whim.

I must say — I am a total invisibobble convert!  They don’t put dents in my hair while I sleep or workout, and they don’t cause any damage on my thin strands.  They also have really good grip and don’t slip out of your hair mid-spin class. I use the standard size, but they also come in a “power” large size, and in a teeny tiny “nano” size. And there are a ton of colors to choose from whether you want to match your own hair or have a fun, bright color like “Pinking of You”. beauty obsession: lavanila deodorant


I’ve read tons of articles that talk about how bad aluminum is for our skin and how it has been linked to cancers and other diseases. For a product that most of us use every day thats a scary thought! Even among these frightening studies, I’m floored that aluminum still is a main ingredient in nearly every pharmacy brand deodorant. In attempts to protect myself from these harmful products I’ve tried my share of organic and all natural versions, but to be honest I was mostly left disappointed and not smelling very pretty!

The game changer for me was when I tried on a whim Lavanila’s Healthy Deodorant. I saw someone mention Lavanila online, and when I was in Sephora picking up my favorite sheet masks, I saw a sample pack in the checkout line and snapped it right up.

Lavanila’s products have amazing scents, zero chemicals, no aluminum, and no parabens. But the best part?  They work!  I have the Vanilla Coconut scent on my bathroom counter and the Sport Luxe version in my gym bag.  I feel so much better knowing that I’m not exposing myself to unnecessary chemicals. And it helps that I smell nice too!

Yoga with Mandy Ingber

When I moved to California, one of the things I missed most was the blogger community I had back in Boston. I had a great network of friends along with the Boston Bloggers and Blog Better Boston organizations that planned awesome events. So one of the first things I started to look for when I finally felt settled was another blogging community out here.

I found Blogger Babes through, and many of the seats at their events go super quick, so I was thrilled when I got a spot at the Mandy Ingber yoga event at RonRobinson in Santa Monica!

Mandy Ingber is a celebrity fitness and wellness expert here in Los Angeles with some of her clients being Jennifer Aniston and Chelsea Handler!  The yoga class at RonRobinson was to celebrate the launch of her latest book, Yogalosophy For Inner Strength: 12 Weeks to Heal Your Heart and Embrace Joy.

RonRobinson sells a unique array of clothing, home goods, and beauty products, including my favorite Diptyque candles and Oribe hair products. They have such a unique space and I discovered that they host free yoga classes every weekend! If you’re ever in Santa Monica, its definitely a must visit!

What’s in my gym bag…

One of the first things I did when we moved to Los Angeles was join a gym. I toured a few locations and settled on one that had two locations near our apartment and a good schedule of group fitness classes. I’m lucky that I work from home and don’t have to rush to/from an office after my classes, but I still have my gym bag packed and ready to go so I can hop over after I’m done for the day and get in my spin class or strength session. Here’s what I’ve been keeping in my bag:


I’ve been using my quilted MZ Wallace Metro Tote as my gym bag. I like that it doesn’t scream “athletic” with any sports logos, but rather its got a sleek black textured design. Its roomy and fits all of my stuff! I don’t wear any makeup to the gym (except for a little swipe of tinted lip balm!), but because I’m acne prone I’ll always wipe my face and neck down with a Simple Cleansing Wipe after class.

Keeping my hair off my face and neck is really important during an intense class. I’m a huge fan of both Lululemon and Zella headbands, and since my hair is fine, I use a wide, damage-free hair tie.

I track all of my workouts with my Apple Watch Sport. I have a Jawbone UP that I wear during the day and at night for sleeping, but it doesn’t track heart rate or “stationary” workouts like spinning, so the Apple Watch has been awesome for those workouts as well as my weekend bike rides along the beach. And speaking of spinning, I have a pair of Giro cycling shoes for class.

For barre/yoga classes my gym provides the mats, but I’m not sure how often they are cleaned so I’ll bring along a mat towel to place on top. After every use I can just toss it into the washing machine and have a clean towel to bring to every time!

For every trip to the gym (and pretty much anytime I leave the house) I always have my S’well bottle with me — keeps my drinks super cold with slippery no condensation on the bottle.

I typically take group fitness classes, but on the off-chance I miss the class (traffic!) I’ll have a pair  of earbuds handy so I can get in a quick treadmill or elliptical session and still be able to listen to some music. And last but not least, I always keep some sort of healthy snack in my bag, like a Kind Bar, just incase I need some fuel before a workout!

The Kayla Movement


I’ve joined the Kayla Movement! A few weeks ago I purchased a copy of Kayla Itsines Workout Guide and after a few weeks of crazy travel, today is my first official day as a member of #KaylasArmy!

This past winter was pretty rough with me, and a few years of working from home has made me less active and feeling a bit sluggish. My clothes weren’t fitting right anymore and I was no longer feeling good in my own skin.

I needed something to help me get back on track, and after a ton of research I settled on Kayla’s Workout Guides.  Two rounds of two 7-minute circuits plus a mix of HITT and LISS cardio workouts make up the weeks and I couldn’t be more excited.

Here I go!
