TALIA

I recently stumbled upon my new favorite designer for cozy and casual cotton basics and I just had to share!!  Talia is a Southern California based brand with roots in Lima, Peru where all of their products are handmade with the softest Pima cotton.  Their flagship store is not far from me in Mission Viejo, CA, so I made a stop a few weeks ago on my way home from San Diego to check out the pieces, and ultimately stock up on as many as I could afford!

This shirt is their “Avery” style that has an amazing boxy fit with with slim arms. I have stop myself from wearing it every day its so comfy and versatile — I can throw it on with skinny jeans like I did here, or I can wear it over my tank and yoga pants while en route to the gym. I have it in this oatmeal color and in a bright pink, but I’m just dying for it to come in more colors! (Psst Talia,  can this come in black pretty please?!) I have a few more pieces that I purchased on my trip to the Talia store, so stay tuned for more pima cotton goodness!

beauty obsession: coola

screenshot156 I have always been mindful of sunscreen, but not as much as I should have been. I definitely brought it out for a day at the beach or when biking around town, but I never really thought about wearing it every day when I lived in Massachusetts — and I definitely should have!!!

Now that I live in California, I feel as if I have become more mindful of the sun and its harmful rays.  Even in a short drive I can be stuck in traffic for 30-45 minutes, and I need to be sure I am protecting myself from the sun! Not only am I worried about my skin, but also my hair! My colorist says that too much sun can turn my newly blonde locks brassy. Yuck!

Because I work from home and don’t get super dressed up that often, I felt like a “double duty” product would work best for me. I wanted sun protection with a little bit of coverage. — and Coola’s tinted BB and CC creams are the perfect products.  They are lightweight, yet powerful in sun protection, and provide just the right amount of blendable coverage.

I try to be as mindful as possible (it’s difficult!!!) when it comes to cosmetics on my skin, so thankfully Coola makes the decision easy. Organic and natural ingredients make it easier for me to feel good about the products I am using on my skin. Happy Summer!!!!

May Gray and June Gloom are two Southern California phenomenons where the weather is just completely gray, gloomy and overcast during the months of May and June.  I heard about this prior to moving to Los Angeles, but never fully understood it until I was here — and its completely true!  The past six weeks have been so overcast every morning and sometimes every afternoon as well. Thank goodness that July is around the corner. I am ready for some sun!

Even if its super gray and gloomy out, I decided to try and brighten things up with an all white outfit. I’ve tried a ton of different pairs of white jeans, and 9 times out of 10 I reach for this pair by Old Navy.  They fit the best and are super affordable — can’t beat that!  I also wanted to add a super soft subtle pop of color, so I added a textured clutch and my monogrammed Sencha & Bourbon scarf from Oui Please.

the dress: part 2

Dress: Who What Wear x Target / Tank: Alternative Apparel / Jeans: Old Navy
Necklaces: Gorjana (long/short) / Shoes: Jack Rogers / Sunglasses: Ray-Ban

Like I mentioned last week, I really saw this dress as a super versatile piece that could be worn multiple ways all summer. I definitely see it coming with me on my trip back to the east coast next month — I only have a small amount of room in my suitcase (I rarely check my bag) and I’ll be there for 10+ days, so I’ll need to maximize my space with items that can be mixed and matched!  I’ll definitely be dressing it up at night for dinners, and down during the day for shopping and trips to the Beach Plum for lobster rolls!

Here I’ve opened up the dress and removed the belt to make it into a long flowy vest to wear over white jeans. I think it would look equally great with darker skinny denim, and maybe even some flares. I’m now debating trying out this look with a pair of jean shorts… I’ll let you know!

The past few years I’ve really been focused on purchasing items that are less trendy or “fast fashion” and more timeless and classic. I spotted this Who What Wear x Target dress the other day and was so distracted with trying to frantically find it in my size that I completely forgot about the vitamins that I actually went in there for! (I like Olly if you’re wondering!)

I love the shirtdress style with the optional belted waist — totally classic, but able to be dressed up or down with the addition of jewelry, heels, sandals, or even jeans! Its also super lightweight and will be perfect for dinner or drinks on hot summer nights.  I will note that its not as opaque as I’d like it to be, so I wore a slip underneath!

Check back next week for Part 2 where I’ll style the dress in a totally different way. This dress will definitely be in heavy rotation in my wardrobe this summer!
