What’s in her Makeup Bag?

makeup bag

I think that everyone has a little curiosity in them.  We’re always asking our girlfriends things like ‘Who makes that dress?’ and ‘Where did you get that lipstick?’  And then there are the sneakier ones who try to do their reconnaissance work on their own.  Think of Steve Martin in Father of the Bride 2, who broke his in-laws’ mirror trying to peek in their medicine cabinet!  Don’t worry about breaking any mirrors…. Today I’m giving you a free pass and a sneak peek into my own make up bag:

Make Up For Ever High Definition Foundation & Concealer
I have never been one with really nice skin. Try as I might to even the tone and keep the blemishes at bay, I am not a miracle worker! So I fake some nice, even skin with these products. Sometimes I will mix a little moisturizer with the foundation to make it a bit lighter.  90% of the time I apply my foundation with my hands, but I always apply concealer with a brush.

MAC Blush in Fleur Power
I typically don’t like blush with any kind of shimmer in it, which is why I have gravitated towards this pinky but not shimmery blush from MAC. I’ve probably been using it for the past 5 years!

MAC Eyeshadow in Shroom
I’m not super skilled at eye makeup application, but this color is pretty foolproof. Its a nice soft beige with just a hint of shimmer.

NARS Larger than Life Eyeliner in Black
This is probably the best eyeliner I have ever used, and I think I’ve tried it all! Its a very creamy pencil that has a retractable tip/built in sharpener.  And this is one eyeliner that does not budge!  Its staying power is so good that if you want to smudge it at all, you have to act quickly when you first put it on.

Lancôme Hypnôse Drama Mascara
I’ve definitely already mentioned how much I like this mascara, so I wont go crazy talking about it again.  But really, that curvy brush is genius!

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella, Damned and Dolce Vita
These are the best!  I have one in each of the major colors– Cruella is a scarlet red, Damned is a dark magenta, and Dolce Vita is a dusty rose that’s just a hint darker than my natural lip color.  These are super creamy, literally stay on for hours and can be layered for different colors and looks.  I  also have a handful of NARS lipsticks (not pictured above), including Shanghai Express, Scarlet Empress, Funny Girl, and Shiap.

YSL Volupté Sheer Candy #4
I first heard of this sheer lipstick/lip balm from Rachel at Pink Peonies, who is always wearing their #9 shade. Intrigued, I headed down to Sephora to check the colors out for myself.  I ended up falling in love with #4, which is a very sheer bright pink color with no shimmer or sparkles.   It can be worn alone, or layered over another lipstick, I usually layer it with NARS Funny Girl or Shiap.

So all of these items are tucked into my floral C.Wonder nylon makeup bag.  I really love this bag because it is SO easy to clean.  I can spot clean a spill or toss the entire bag into the laundry machine without an issue.  I try to keep my everyday look pretty natural, but I do have a bunch of other non-everyday makeup items (mostly eyeshadow and lipstick) that I keep in a train case.  Usually those items come out for special occasions, like a wedding or a date night.

So, what’s in your makeup bag??

Boston Bloggers at Scampo

On Monday, I had the pleasure of attending my first Boston Bloggers event at Scampo in the Liberty Hotel.  It was such a fun night connecting with different bloggers from the area!  There were some who I had met/seen before at Blog Better Boston, but most of them I had not met yet, and had only been following them via their blogs and on Twitter.  There were also some completely new faces and I am super excited to check out all of their blogs!

I decided to get all dressed up for the event in my Banana Republic fur coat, J.Crew cabernet Minnie pants, an old H&M peplum top, J.Crew Factory necklace and my Sole Society Margie heels.  I topped everything off with Nars Scarlet Empress lipstick, my brand new Moo.com business cards and a Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mac.  The only downer of the night was the $20 parking and 40 minute drive home— I MUST move back to the city ASAP!

I love the Mini Mac!  Its pretty versatile– you can double up the strap to make it shorter, use it long and cross-body, or take it off completely and use it as a clutch.  I considered purchasing it in black, but I fell in love with this deep burgundy color when I saw it!
