A modern girl…
Stops to enjoy the sunset wherever she is… even if she’s at the airport.(Unretouched/unedited photo taken outside Atlanta’s International Airport)
I don’t know about you all, but this week I am just tired! I’ve been down in Atlanta for work and I just cannot wait to get home and hop back into my own comfy bed. Winding down before bed is definitely a sacred act for me and there are a few things that I like to do to ensure I have a great night’s sleep.
Comfy pajamas is definitely a must and Eberjey is my favorite brand. Taking a bath with a nice scented candle helps me to unwind, and an overnight facial masque helps my skin repair while I’m sleeping.
Hopefully I will catch some restful zzzz’s tonight!
The holidays are in full swing — which means festive decorations, twinkly lights, and festive party clothes! I was pretty excited when Piperlime sent me this dress by Muse — a nice silver color with a fun twist detail. It also can be dressed up with strappy heels or down with some tights and boots. The hemline is a little shorter than I’d like, but the neckline is rather modest and I think I may try my hand at a DIY skirt extender with some festive sequins or ostrich feathers.

Our final shop of the day on my shopping day with The Boston Fashionista and Newburyport Development was Soak, or soon to be known as Soak Shoreline when they open their expanded shop of not only soap and bath products, but now also loungewear and pajamas.
I will admit that even though I live in Newburyport I have peeked into Soak, but never really shopped there until this past visit. Now I am fully obsessed! I honestly cannot shower without their vanilla sugar scrub–smells like I am showering with a cupcake. I’ve also tried their shower steamers which look like these mini bath bombs, but you leave on the side of the shower instead of inside. After a few splashes of water they release an amazing aroma into the shower and because they aren’t in the direct shower stream they last for several days. Heaven!
Next time you think of shopping for any bath products head up to Soak in Newburyport!
I have sort of put myself on a spending freeze to help offset some of my tuition* costs over the next few months. Besides not buying more than the essentials, I’ve come up with a few other ways to cut costs, particularly in the the area of beauty.
1. A little dusting
Not of your house… your hair! Don’t tell my stylist, but sometimes I give myself a little 1/2 centimeter trim between visits to help keep my ends fresh and split-free. All you need are a pair of really sharp scissors, like these barber scissors. Keep them sharp (and lasting longer!) by only using them on your hair.
2. Save on lesser used cosmetics
When it comes to makeup and cosmetics, I really don’t wear too much on a daily basis besides mascara, foundation and concealer. These are the items that I have tried and found some true quality favorites — Benefit They’re Real Mascara and YSL Illuminating Foundation and Brightening Concealer set with Avène Thermal Spring Water. When I want to wear eyeliner or eyeshadow, I hop on over to CVS and find an affordable choice by Revlon or Almay since I know I won’t use it too much!
3. Splurge on shampoo vs. conditioner
When it comes to my hair, I know that I need a quality sulfate-free shampoo, like Living Proof’s Perfect Hair Day, to prevent my fine hair from being stripped of its color. I also don’t shampoo my hair every day, so the bottle lasts me a while. Since conditioners don’t have damaging sulfates, I can pick a wallet-friendly drugstore brand without worry. I like Aussie’s 3 Minute Miracle the best!
4. Have an at home spa day
Its not too hard to transform your bathroom into your own luxurious spa! Turn off your cell, light a few candles, pour yourself a glass of wine, and fill up the bathtub with lots of bubbles. In an hour you’ll feel super relaxed and didn’t have to spend any money or even leave the house!
